Kiev-Pechersk Lavra academy

OOC : Sorry for the slow posting, been falling asleep early quite a lot these days...for the academy, can you post a description and brief history of it please?

IC : Fanya stands on the outskirts of the academy, scrutinizing the building, or what is left of it.

Through the Providence of God the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra started its existence in Kiev in 1051, during the reign of Yaroslav the Wise and metropolitan ministry of St. Ilarion. The monastery, which became an inexhaustible source of devout prayer, was founded by the miraculous order of the Queen of Heaven, who appeared to the Venerable Anthony’s spiritual Father hegumen of Esfigmenou Monastery Theoktist on the far Holy Mount Athos, and by the blessing of the Venerable Theodosius.
When the number of brethren reached 100 monks, the Venerable Theodosius sent one of his monks to Constantinople to eunuch Ephraim to copy the Studion Statute and bring it to Kiev. At the same time Metropolitan George visited Kiev. He was accompanied by one of the monks of the Studion Monastery Michael, who delivered the monastic statute to the monastery. On the basis of these two versions the Statute of the Pechersk Monastery was drafted.
Morality and asceticism distinguished monks of the Kiev-Pechersk Monastery, and recluses in the first place. This attracted to the Lavra educated and famous people. The monastery had become a kind of academy for the Orthodox hierarchs. By the beginning of the XIII century 50 bishops were nominated to different parts of Kievan Rus out of monastery brotherhood.

The place, maybe because it was so close to a cave system, escaped total destruction...but obviosuly, it has seen better days.[img][/img]

OOC : Is it possible for me to gain entrance without being observed?

As far as you can tell, no one can see you..the gloom is to thick. ..but you could trip and kick rocks, and that would make some noise, that could call attention.

You find a trail, that is not rock-covered, so you should be able to walk it up, as long as you are careful.

(You can describe your action, as long as you imply care and stealth.)

Taking care to remain in the shadows and using trees and shrubbery as cover, Fanya claims up the trail.

You advance until you see an entrance. No one, has called out to you, and the normal night sounds are still soft around the place.

A faint torch lights up the entrance.

What kind of entrance is it? Is there a way to get in unnoticed?

It is a simple wood door, that seems to be put, in the side of the mountain. You may guess it is covering a cavern. You have not seen or heard anyone so far.

Is it locked? If so, can i try to pick the lock?

From your position, you cannot be sure, but you know that most doors are not locked in Kiev.

Okay im going to try to open the door...

The door slides open, but it makes some noise.

OOC : Okay just to be clear, im sneaking in to find my contact.

IC : Fanya enters softly. Leaving the door open just a bit, she attempts to make her way through the maze of corridors to the monk's living quarters, particularly that of one which has been known to the Brujah of Kiev for some time.

Some people do see her, but dressed the way she is, she is taken by a resident.

After some time, you stop before the familiar door, you have come to recognize, among all others here.

Fanya knocks on the door. "Grigori, wake up."

The door opens, and you see your friend.

What? Come in, come in!

He looks surprised, but ushers you in, quickly.

Entering Grigori's spartan room, Fanya lets down her hood.

"You seem to be doing well since last we met." she observes.

"For a start, why dont you tell me what has happened since the Mongols invaded...i am surprised the monastery was not looted."

"Mmm and the monastery itself? How has it fared since then? And tell me of what you have been doing since then."
